In the framework of celebrating the 10th anniversary of the foundation of the factory in Silao, Pirelli’s ambitious plans were announced. Among others, Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo, Governor of the Mexican federal state Guanajuato, Luigi De Chiara, Italian Ambassador in Mexico, Claudio Zanardo, President and CEO of Pirelli North America, and Paolo Benea, General Manager of Pirelli Neumaticos SA Mexico, took part. Marco Tronchetti Provera, Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of Pirelli, was included via video conference.
Tronchetti Provera stressed the importance of the location for the whole company: “The factory in Silao has provided an important contribution to Pirelli’s success in globally aiming at a leading position in the high-value segment. When we had chosen Silao and the region Guanajuato as location for a new factory 10 years ago, our expectations were very high. Today, I am able to say with joy that we reached our goals and that the factory and the people working there have by far surpassed our expectations.”
400 new workplaces are to be created
Pirelli had already included comprehensive investments in its industry plan 2021-2022 | 2025. In September 2021, Marco Tronchetti Provera invited Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo to the company’s headquarters in Milan in order to discuss the plans for the location. The recently announced projects consist of an investment volume of 114 million euros. The tyre production is to be increased from about 7.2 million at the end of 2022 up to a full capacity of about 8.5 million in 2025. As a consequence, Pirelli will increase the production area by 16,000 square metres to more than 220,000 square metres. Additionally, 400 new employees will be hired. Thus, the workforce in Silao will increase to about 3,200 people.
“Mexico is a strategic location for Pirelli for all its activities in North and Central America. We will be able to increase Pirelli’s technological and industrial competitiveness with this investment”, emphasized Claudio Zanardo, President and CEO of Pirelli North America. “Actually, this factory is one of the group’s technologically most developed ones and will host a new Pirelli research and development centre soon”, added Tronchetti Provera. In Silao, Pirelli mostly manufactures products for the high-value segment, with which among others passenger cars, electric vehicles, SUVs, and light trucks are equipped.
