Ready for the change in season, Goodyear wants to expand its portfolio by adding the new winter tyre. Until September 2023, the UltraGrip Performance 3 is to be available in 94 different sizes from 14 to 21 inches. The new generation is based on the UltraGrip 9+ and the UltraGrip Performance+. Goodyear would like to start the next step concerning performance and meeting market requirements. The company ordered the experts of Buzzback to carry out a consumer study in order to find out what a winter tyre was supposed to offer. The result showed that consumers appreciated a winter tyre performing well in all wintry conditions. Thus, Goodyear focused on the areas of wet handling, wet braking and dry braking and invited the testing company TÜV Süd to test the tyre. According to information from the tyre manufacturer, the TÜV testing confirmed that the UltraGrip Performance 3 was leading in all the mentioned areas compared with four other “premium competitors”.
Winterproof due to technology concepts
The tyre is to provide a good feeling on wintry roads with its Snow Protect Technology and snow claws. According to Goodyear, the tyre has increased density of blades and offers numerous gripping edges, which are supposed to offer optimum traction and grip. Moreover, a higher number and longer grooves at the shoulder edge of the tyre are to guarantee performance on soft and deep snow. According to company information, the Wet Braking+ Technology is to reduce the risk of aquaplaning.
EV Ready
According to Goodyear, the new tyre is ready for vehicles of all types of drive, above all for electric vehicles, as it is EV ready. According to the tyre manufacturer’s information, rolling resistance was reduced by 3 per cent and the tyre weight by 10 per cent – compared with the predecessor model UG Performance+. Additionally, a new noise-cancelling tread pattern is supposed to reduce noise by about 36 per cent in the interior. According to Goodyear, the UltraGrip Performance 3 fits with vehicle models like Alfa Romeo Giulia, Audi A6/S6, BMW i4 M50, BMW 4er Gran Coupé, Cupra Formentor, Tesla Model S Plaid, Smart #1, Toyota Aygo X or Volvo C40/XC40.
