Bridgestone is equipping the new Renault Mégane R.S. with the tyre Potenza S001. “The Mégane R.S. is a new type of vehicle. It disposes of a more powerful engine, and the wheel suspension and four-wheel steering system were newly developed and brought to serial production. Thus, Bridgestone designed the Potenza S001 in such a way that it will not only perfectly meet the new requirements of the car, but also supplement the advantages of our innovations in an optimum way”, explains Laurent Hurgon, development driver of the new Renault Mégane R.S.
“The Mégane R.S. is a ‘hot hatch‘ – that means a thoroughbred compact sports wagon”, says Christophe de Valroger, Vice President Original Equipment at Bridgestone Europe. “And we developed the Potenza S001 on this foundation. We added broad, stiff shoulder blocks at the exterior of the tread pattern in order to guarantee dry handling and excellent braking performance. Smaller blocks at the interior further optimize the performance of the tyre in wet conditions”. Moreover, the tyre disposes of high-angled tread grooves, which provide efficient water dispersion and thus, improved resistance against aquaplaning. Additionally, a reinforced sidewall stabilizes the tyre body of the Potenza S001. The 2018 Renault Mégane R.S will be commercially available as of March 2018.
