According to the group management, only the following statement was sent four days after the editors’ inquiry: “So far no decision has been taken with regard to Pirelli’s participation in the The Tire Cologne. Based on the uncertainty of the international context, the participation of the Pirelli Group in public events taking place in the next months will still have to be evaluated.”
What does the “uncertainty of the international context” mean? The coronavirus? Recently, there have also been speculations within the industry that the group has suffered from considerable losses as a consequence of the Fintyre bankruptcy. Such a vague statement leaves of course a lot of room for interpretation. Nevertheless, it goes without mentioning that a further big player of the industry is doubting the necessity of a participation in the most important international tyre trade fair. Already in November, Goodyear Dunlop Tires Germany GmbH cancelled its participation in the The Tire Cologne 2020. According to a statement from the Goodyear Dunlop management, the company decided to “do without a presentation at the The Tire Cologne 2020 after weighing the pros and cons of the most efficient use of existing resources” for a long time.
