The new top model in the Falken brochure is officially available in trade since spring this year. First of all, 81 sizes from 17 to 21 inches will be sold. All the products of the series are approved for the speed class Y (300 km/h).
According to company information, a special Aramid reinforcement, which was adapted from motorsports, is one of the key features of the new tyre. It is supposed to stabilize the structure of the Azenis FK520 and to provide decreased deformability, improved driving stability and more precise steering behaviour at the same time.
Moreover, according to information provided by developers at Falken, they were able to achieve a 10-per-cent decrease in weight compared to the predecesor. As a consequence, unsprung masses as well as rolling resistance will be reduced and, thus, fuel efficiency optimized. Furthermore, the ground contact area was adapted to realize a more balanced wear pattern.
Modern simulation technology from Japan
According to people responsible for the company, the so-called diamond-cut tread, which will go in serial production for the first time, was a further main development area. The development process was also supported by the Falken-owned 4D nano simulation from Japan. People responsible for the tyre brand said that it played a key role in the development of tread block edges with diamond cut and noise reduction elements, which are integrated there.
“The Falken Azenis FK520 is our latest UHP tyre with an extremely balanced interplay of grip, reliability, performance, and efficiency. Falken combined all experiences gained in material development and simulation technology in order to develop a tremenduously powerful premium product”, summarizes Andreas Giese, Senior Manager Corporate Planning and Product Planning at Falken Tyre Europe GmbH.
