Due to improved fuel efficiency based on monitored rolling resistance, companies will be able to reduce the overall costs of their fleet with this new tyre, Dunlop promises. For some companies choosing different tyres for long-distance or regional traffic as well as inner city use is the best way to increase efficiency. Fleets with a mixed use of long and short distances, however, need tyres like the SP346+.
Versatile use – also in winter
“The new Dunlop SP346+ combines practicality with robustness and damage resistance as well as with an outstanding mileage and the additional advantage of winter suitability with the 3PMSF symbol. It is a versatile steer axle tyre for all road uses”, says Maciej Szymanski, Director Marketing Europe - Commercial Business Unit at Goodyear.
The 3-Peak-Mountain-Snowflake (3PMSF) symbol on the tyre sidewall helps the SP346+ to cover all the European legal requirements for use in wintry road conditions. According to company information, the five-sipe tread configuration guarantees an even contact pressure distribution and higher robustness in the shoulders due to an improved sipe configuration. Thus, the tyre receives better damage and wear resistance and durability under severe conditions.
The optimized groove geometry of the SP346+ is to raise resistance against transverse loading. According to Dunlop, the stabilizing edges in the shoulder grooves work as linking elements of the tread sipes and reduce their lateral movements with regard to bending and slip. Thus, wear is reduced and rolling resistance decreased.
As of now, the new steer axle tyre will be available in size 315/70 R22.5 HL. In the third quarter of 2021, the size 315/60 R22.5 HL is to be on offer too. According to Dunlop, both models are compatible with the brand portfolio for truck tyres in road use including the tread SP446 for the drive axle and the SP246 for semi-trailers and trailers.
