Hankook: Operative result has decreased by 15 per cent

Hankook Tire has announced the financial results for the third quarter of 2018. The company achieved a global turnover of 1,760 billion KRW (about 1.35 billion euros) and an operative result of 184.6 billion KRW (about 141.5 million euros) during the period under review. The operative result decreased by 15 per cent compared to the previous year.

According to company information, Hankook noticed increasing turnover of passenger car and SUV tyres with a diameter from 17 inches upwards. They covered about 52 per cent of the total turnover in this segment. Compared to the year before, this stands for an increase of 4.5 per cent. The company explains the slight drop in the operative result with a decrease in the original equipment business because of falling demand in the global automotive market, and with launching costs for the new US plant in Tennessee. Wdk: Tyre manufacturers will have to cope with decrease in turnover of 6.2 per cent

After the first six months of the year 2016, the German rubber industry noticed a decrease in turnover of 2.2 per cent. According to wdk (Organisation of German Manufacturers of Tyres and Technical Elastomers Products), the tyre manufacturers’ turnover fell by 6.2 per cent. In spite of higher sales figures for TEE (Technische Elastomer Erzeugnisse – Technical Elastomers Products) production decreased in German tyre plants and in TEE locations. While manufacturers of TEE were able to look back at a slightly positive business development in the first half of 2016, there was a decrease in turnover for tyre manufacturers in the same period. This was not only caused by low sales prices resulting from falling raw material costs.
