Hankook announced expansion plans for building a new production plant for truck and bus tyres in Hungary. The work is going to start in the first six months of 2018. Production is supposed to begin two years later. The expansion with a value of about 290 million euros is to be the fourth biggest investment in the history of the factory, which was originally opened in 2007.

According to responsible people, it will play a crucial role in the long-term strategy of the company, because it stands for an important part of Hankook’s European strategy being the only production location in this region. The company will create about 150 new jobs and will ensure a production capacity of about 550,000 tyres for medium-heavy and heavy trucks and busses per year.  After the groundbreaking ceremony in July 2006, the factory has constantly been expanded and modernized. According to company information, production capacities have reached 55,000 tyres per day, which corresponds to up to 19 million tyres per year, thanks to the latest developments. At the moment, the factory is producing about 900 different sizes and models for passenger cars, SUVs, Vans and light trucks. Since the very beginning, capacity has been tripled. Construction activities are planned to begin in June 2018. The new plant is meant to start producing in June 2020.
